Our Best Datacenter

• We started hosting some of our MX Guarddog equipment with a data center called PhoenixNAP, back in August 2014. For the next 12 years they were the best. No other facility we use came close. For those 12 years, no network drops, no power failures. The 100% uptime was amazing to say the least.

The Sale

• In March 2026, phoenixNAP entered into an agreement to sell its flagship Phoenix data center and colocation business to RadiusDC. The deal includes the main Phoenix facility, local interconnection infrastructure, and future campus expansion rights.

The Outages

• After the March sale to RadiusDC, we have experienced three small outages which was surprising since PhoenixNAP was so good. We had been using PhoenixNAP as our main facility, since it has been the most reliable.

Augsut 13, 2026

• About 4:30am MX Guarddog started receiving alerts from our equipment that the temperature in the data center was too high. We started to investigate, but lost all contact with our equipment. The data center started posting some information about what was going on. They were reporting a massive failue of their cooling systems, which is very bad in Phoenix in August! It got so hot equipment was either shut off by the data center or simply started failing.

• How hot is hot? The normal temperature in the data center is about 22°C (71.6°F), during the outage our servers recorded temperatures as high as 54°C (129.2°F). Temperatures like that are way out of scope for comptuers.

Everyone Impacted

• 100% of MX Guarddog cutomers were impacted by this outage, no one could access the website and no one could view or release messages from their quarantine. MX Guarddog does operate a distributed network of data centers, where email servers are located. All other data centers were operational and accepting customer mail. Customers whose mail we route through PhoenixNAP were not able to receive any new email, all email for those impacted customers were received and waiting to be delivered. Once the data center came back online, all messages pending delivery were quickly processed and delivered to customer servers.

What Is Next

• MX Guarddog will be reaching out to all affected administrators in the coming days, to work with them to build redundant routes to their servers. The redundant routing will eliminate the single point of failure of a single data center going down.
